looking around

I've arrived at Bear to have a little look around. Don't mind me, you'll hardly notice me. In fact you may not notice me at all. I have a blog already on Scribbles, but I feel the need to make it a bit more personal, in terms of style, than I can manage to do there.

I'm having a play with the markdown syntax. I've used a markdown-only editor before, so it's a case of shaking off the shit dust more than anything.

I said this just now, and now I'm quoting it

There. I think I've got everything in there. Memory refreshed.

Things I like so far:

I'm not that surprised by that preference. Being British, I've already had my European identity stolen in recent years by Brexit and the Tories. The more often-found-to-be-malicious-in-the-end influence US culture pervades life in the rest of the world, with its big social silos and tech companies, odd spelling, and dinosaur measurements systems (not to mention the backwards date format and the maddest advertising industry 'legal' surveillance) the happier I am to stand slightly further away from its influence, if I get the choice.

It is a close run thing between the pure simplicity of Pika and slightly less slick but more customisable Bear, but Bear swings it for me, simply by not being American in origin.

I don't wish to malign the Good Enough people at Pika, they seem genuine enough, but of course, I remember Google started out nice a long time ago.

UPDATE 16:50 27-09-24

I have swapped my blog over to running on Bear. Just a few things left to work out. Like, how can I integrate the Letterbird form somewhere? And where do I put my Mastodon verification link? And how do I get my avatar in the top? I've run out of thinking and concentrating for today though, so that'll be it until Sunday now (I've been previously booked for tomorrow!)

If you liked the post, click the toast! (I guess just close it and quietly slink away if you didn't)
